Woman Suffers Critical Injuries Following Collision with Ferndale Police Officer

Driver Killed in Los Osos Crash With Construction Truck on Bay Boulevard and Nipomo AvenueFERNDALE, Washington (April 15, 2019) – A woman is in serious condition after a Ferndale Police Department officer ran a red light and rammed into her car at the intersection of Main Street and Barrett Road in Ferndale on Thursday, April 11th.

The victim, Teresa Thompson, 64, of Ferndale, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. KOMO News reported that Thompson suffered several injuries, including a shattered pelvis, internal bleeding, a ruptured bladder and tear in the lungs and liver. She was in surgery for the third time on Friday.

The police officer was allegedly headed eastbound on Main Street when his patrol vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe, ran the light and slammed into Thompson’s vehicle turning left onto Main just before noon. Hatchet was responding to a vehicle accident, according to a Washington State Patrol press release.

The road was blocked for 3 ½ hours.

The police officer suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from St. Joseph Hospital.

No charges are expected, according to the press release.

Crash Investigation

Although liability seems to be clear, an investigation will be completed by authorities, and an official report will be released. Ms. Thompson may seek compensation for potential damages including hospital bills, future medical care, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
