Sylvia Leos Victim in Visalia DUI Car Crash on Cecil Avenue
VISALIA (February 27, 2019) – A woman seriously injured after an alleged DUI driver crashed into her home along Cecil Avenue Sunday has been identified as Sylvia Leos, according to FOX 26 and Visalia Times Delta.
Police said a Chevy SUV plowed into a home, going 10 feet into the front bedroom. The accident took place on February 24 just before 3 p.m. in the 1500 block of East Cecil Avenue.
As per the reports, a female resident in that room, later named as Leos, was trapped against the wall and underneath the car upon impact. The vehicle ultimately began catching fire, pinning the driver inside the wreckage.
Fire department officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and rescued Leos from being pinned between the wall and the burning SUV.
Suspect Joshua Hammond, 54, Arrested For DUI
She was immediately transported to Kaweah-Delta Medical Center and then to CRMC with significant injuries including second degree burns to her face, back, and legs. She was then listed in stable condition.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist involved was treated at the site and was determined to have been under the influence of alcohol and was intoxicated at the time.
The suspect, 54-year-old Joshua Hammond, was arrested and booked into Tulare County Pretrial Facility on suspicion of felony DUI, driving on a suspended or revoked license, probation violation, and DUI causing injury with a bail at $125,000.
Hammond has at least one felony conviction from 2000 and several misdemeanor convictions dating back to 1995.
