OGLE COUNTY, Ill. (July 3, 2019) – Two people sadly died in a head-on car crash on Interstate 39 near Sterling on Monday afternoon, July 1st.
Authorities have identified the victims as Leonardo Lozano, 51, and Moo Ler, 50, both from Rockford.
Police report that Ler, driving a 2007 Toyota Camry, was heading northbound on I-39 when he suddenly collided head-on with a semi tractor-trailer.
Ler and his passenger, Lozano, were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver, identified as Kenneth Miller, 51, of Kentucky was not hurt.
Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the facts leading up to the collision.
A forensic examination of the Toyota Camry and the semi tractor-trailer, as well as recovery of black box data, will help investigators determine which party is ultimately at fault, whether comparative liability is assigned, or whether a third party is responsible for a malfunction or mechanical error.
