Car Loses Tire Causing Fatal Crash

Josefa Castanon Garcia Car Crash BakersfieldBAKERSFIELD (May 16, 2019) – A woman died and a man was seriously injured in a single-car crash in Bakersfield on Thursday, May 16th.

The crash took place on southbound Old River Road when a gray Buick Lacrosse struck a curb and lost a tire. The vehicle then went through the intersection at White Lane and struck a traffic light pole.

The woman, who was the passenger,  sustained major injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Authorties have identified her as Josefa Castanon Garcia, 66.

The male driver of the Lacrosse sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for emergency care.

Crash Investigation

Bakersfield Police Department is conducting an investigation. In addition to a police investigation, a forensic examination of the Lacrosse, as well as photos taken at the scene, will help investigators determine what caused the crash, whether comparative liability is assigned, or whether a third party is responsible for a malfunction or mechanical error.
