CHICAGO, Ill. (June 27, 2019) – A young woman and two young men were fatally injured when their driver ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle and a light pole in Chicago’s West Side on Sunday, June 23rd.
The victims in the fatal crash have been identified as Deseanell Thompson, 25, Damon Patterson, 27, and Jaron Patterson, 25.
The driver responsible for the crash, Deanton Thompson, 24, sped through a red light in a Chevy Malibu, crashed into an SUV and careened into a light pole at the 2300 block of West Harrison Street. Following the collision, Deanton Thompson fled the scene of the crash with the front-seat passenger in a hit and run offense.
The Malibu burst into flames. A witness told police he heard Thompson’s sister, Deseanell Thompson, yelling for help from the back seat. Bystanders and first responders attempted to help the injured victims, but the three others in the vehicle sadly suffered fatal injuries.
At this time, it is unknown whether the occupants in the SUV suffered injuries.
Hit-and-Run Crash Investigation
Police later apprehended and arrested the driver. The other passenger who fled was released without charges, according to authorities. The crash investigation is ongoing. Once completed, an official report will be available.
