MIDDLETOWN, Ct. (June 25, 2019) — A pedestrian suffered serious injuries requiring hospitalization after being hit by a DUI driver while he was walking his dog on a sidewalk on Monday afternoon, June 24th in Middletown.
Authorities have identified the victim as Gary Middleton, of Middletown. The pedestrian crash took place at the intersection of Westlake Drive and Burgundy Hill Lane.
The 2003 Ford F-350 that struck Middleton was driven by Christopher Roy and headed southbound on Westlake Drive. According to police, Roy initiated a left turn toward Burgundy Hill Lane and jumped the curb, hitting Middleton.
Paramedics arrived to the scene and transported Middleton to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. According to first responders, he suffered two broken shoulders, a broken nose, numerous broken ribs and other painful acute injuries. Middleton’s dog did not suffer any injuries and was turned over to a relative.
PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION
Police suspect that Roy had been driving under the influence, and he was subsequently arrested for DUI, failure to maintain lane and improper turn.
The accident investigating is ongoing, and authorities are pending review of additional evidence.
