DUI Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested
CORONA (May 23, 2019) – A woman who pulled over on the 91 Freeway in Corona was struck and fatally injured by another vehicle passing by on Monday, May 13th.
The woman that died has been identified as Desiree Taitano, 33.
Taitano was struck on the eastbound 91 Freeway near Green River Road at approximately 2a.m. Taitano got out of her Nissan Altima and was standing on the side of the freeway to help a friend, who had pulled over because her dogs were jumping around.
The driver that hit and fatally injured the victim, Jose Hidalgo, 48, of Corona, fled the scene in a hit-and-run offense. He was apprehended three hours later and arrested at his home. Police have reported that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Taitano was rushed to hospital but she sadly succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation of this fatal crash is still ongoing. An empty red pickup truck with front-end damage was found near the crash site. Authorities are searching for the person who may have picked up Hidalgo and drove him home.
Investigators ask that anyone with information on the hit-and-run incident to please call the CHP at 951-637-8000.
