2 Dead, 1 Critically Injured in Crash
COACHELLA (May 17, 2019) – A man and a woman died and another man suffered critical injuries in two-vehicle car accident in Coachella on Friday, May 17th.
The victims in the collision have been identified as 75-year-old Jose Prieto and 74-year-old Sofia Prieto, of Coachella.
Police report that Jose Prieto and Sofia Prieto’s were in a Ford truck that collided with another vehicle at Grapefruit Boulevard and Mitchell Drive along Highway 111.
Paramedics were dispatched to the scene but sadly pronounced Jose Prieto dead upon arrival. Sofia Prieto was transported to a died at a nearby hospital. A man in the other vehicle suffered major injuries and he remains hospitalized, in critical condition.
Police suspect that the collision may have been caused by street racing. Estevan Jesus Donato, 27, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter early Saturday. Jesus Donato posted bail. Jail records indicate that his arraignment is on July 16, 2019, and he is expected in court.
Once authorities have completed their investigation, a police report will be available.
