Brian Colón is the Managing Partner of Singleton Schreiber’s New Mexico offices, located in Albuquerque, Clovis, Hobbs, Las Vegas, Los Lunas, Mora, and Ruidoso. Mr. Colón brings more than 20 years’ experience as a practicing attorney to help lead the firm’s New Mexico efforts in the areas of wrongful death, personal injury, medical malpractice, inadequate security, products liability, environmental law, insurance bad faith, and transactional negotiations.
Mr. Colón is a former New Mexico State Auditor and former chairman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. He has over 30 years of professional experience and an extensive background of service to local communities, with an accessible, servant-leader style committed to his professional career, volunteer work, fundraising in the nonprofit sector, and public service. He also has professional relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials who can assist individuals and organizations with their unique needs and challenges.
As New Mexico State Auditor, Mr. Colón’s remarkable work included establishing an oversight and accountability unit to protect individuals who are in conservatorships and initiating the first compliance audit of State facilities for ADA compliance in parking lot design and building access, with findings that led to remediation at surveyed sites.
Mr. Colón also led the largest recovery in the history of the New Mexico State Auditor’s Office, and obtained over $13 million in funds for overcharges to seniors by insurance intermediaries.
A graduate of the Army War College National Security Seminar, Mr. Colón is also a former Honorary Commander of Kirtland Air Force Base. He is a past trustee for the Albuquerque Community Foundation and served on the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association’s (NMHBA) Board of Directors and the State Bar of New Mexico’s Committee on Diversity. Mr. Colón has been twice appointed as a Commissioner for the New Mexico Judicial Selection Commission. He is currently back on the NMHBA Board of Directors and serves as First Vice President and Lifetime Member of the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO).
Mr. Colón resides in Albuquerque and grew up in Valencia County, New Mexico. He graduated from Los Lunas High School, New Mexico State University with a finance degree, and The University of New Mexico School of Law. Mr. Colón and his wife Aleli have been married for 27 years and have a son, Rafael, who is a graduate of Albuquerque High School and George Washington University.
