Police Chase Down Hit-and-Run Driver
ARDEN ARCADE (May 23, 2019) – A 35-year-old woman pushing a shopping cart was fatally injured after being hit by a drunk driver in Arden Arcade on Wednesday night, May 23rd.
The pedestrian crash took place at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Arden Way near Wayland Avenue.
Police report that the hit-and-run driver was traveling eastbound on Arden Way in a black Mercedes-Benz when he struck the woman and fled the scene.
The woman suffered fatal injuries and sadly died at the scene.
A Sacramento police officer, who happened to be near the scene, chased the driver of the Mercedes-Benz and apprehended the suspect. Authorities report the the driver was “extremely intoxicated.”
The suspect, Dean Barbera, 52, of El Dorado Hills, was arrested. He faces charges of driving under the influence, causing fatal injuries, and felony hit-and-run.
Once the investigation has been completed by authorities, a police report will be available.
