Driver Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run on Northbound Highway 101
ATASCADERO, CA (April 3, 2019)
Police are seeking the public’s help to apprehend hit-and-run suspect Richard Lawrence Gonzalez, 39, who was involved in a morning crash near Atascadero on Wednesday.
Gonzalez’s last known address was in Creston, Calif. Driving a Ford F-150, Gonzalez made an unsafe lane change at about 9 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 south of Traffic Way when he struck the side of a Toyota Tacoma, which lost control.
Gonzalez’s Ford careened off the road and plowed through a fence into a large oak tree before coming to rest in a Denny’s parking lot.
The Tacoma driver who has not been identified suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez allegedly pulled off the Traffic Way ramp, removing all paperwork from his vehicle’s glove box. He left the scene on foot.
Gonzalez left several identifying items in his truck, including a California photo ID, a laptop, and items and paperwork with his full name and home address. Police impounded his F-150.
No additional information has been revealed at this time as authorities are currently searching for the the suspect.
While authorities will hold the hit-and-run and DUI suspect responsible for this tragedy, the hit-and-run victim will have the right to pursue a personal injury claim against the defendant once located and detained.
