Man, 30, Victim in Hit-and-Run
WESTLAKE, CA (April 3, 2019)
Police have identified the man accused of leaving the scene of an accident last week after striking and killing 30-year-old Leonides Rivas as he crossed a street in Westlake.
Martin Gonzalo Rodas was driving the white pick-up truck that hit Rivas, a construction worker, as he crossed Bonnie Brae Street just after 6 a.m. on March 26th.
Rodas drove through a red light where Bonnie Brae intersects with Wilshire Boulevard when he struck Rivas. Rodas did not stop his car, continuing down Bonnie Brae. The crash was caught on surveillance video.
Rivas was taken to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He left behind his wife.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Police Department is still searching for Rodas who remains at-large.
While authorities will hold the hit-and-run and DUI suspect responsible for this tragedy, the family of Leonidas Rivas will have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim against the defendant once located and detained. Wrongful death family members are subject to compensation for funeral costs and loss of companionship.
