MARIN COUNTY (April 5, 2019) – A father was killed and his 13-year-old son was critically injured after the dad’s vehicle plunged several hundred feet down a steep hill in Mount Tamalpais State Park just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 4.
The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His son was taken to Marin General Hospital with major injuries. Their identities have yet to be released.
The latest crash is under investigation. The car was traveling west on Ridgecrest Boulevard before going off the road on a curve near Willow Camp Fire Road.
This is the second incident in 12 days that a driver has died in the park. A car went off the same road and plunged about 600 feet down a hill on March 23rd. The victim in the crash was identified as Brad De La Garza, 55, of San Rafael.
In light of recent events, it is clear that Ridgecrest Boulevard is an unsafe road, and appropriate measures should be taken to avoid future tragedies.
Police will conduct an investigate involving both fatalities in an effort to determine liability, but this should not preclude an independent investigation by an attorney and/or expert witnesses for a comprehensive view of all contributing factors.
