FOUNTAIN VALLEY (April 10, 2019) – Alex Nieves, 18, was driving southbound on Harbor Boulevard Saturday night, just past midnight, when he lost control of his SUV, hitting a tree before smashing into the light pole.
Six people in Nieves’ SUV sustained minor injuries in the crash and police recovered a case of nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, in his car after the incident. The gas is filled into small balloons and inhaled by users giving them a temporary, euphoric high and unconsciousness. All six of Nieves’ passengers, who are all adults, were taken to a hospital and are in stable condition.
Nieves was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his car. He was booked into Orange County Jail.
