Big Rig Broadsided Toyota Tercel After Being Rear-Ended by Prius
RANCHO CORDOVA (April 3, 2019)
A deadly crash involving a big rig and two additional vehicles took place Wednesday morning on westbound Highway 50 near the Sunrise Boulevard off-ramp.
California Highway Patrol officials arrived at the scene following the crash which occurred just after 8:00 a.m.
Passenger in Tercel Suffers Fatal Injuries
Authorities have concluded that the driver of a Toyota Tercel was struck from the rear by a Toyota Prius sending it directly into the path of an oncoming cement truck.
Tercel and Prius Drivers Badly Hurt, Hospitalized
The aftermath of the wreck sadly left an unidentified passenger inside the Tercel fatally injured as the victim was pronounced at the scene.
Meanwhile, both the driver of the Tercel and the Prius sustained serious injuries for which they were rushed by a ambulance to a hospital. Both are expected to survive.
No injuries were suffered by the big rig driver.
Traffic remained backed up and congested up until around 10:00 a.m. while officials perused the scene and gathered the facts.
No additional information has been provided as this story will be updated pending the disclosure of the victim’s name and any new bits of information released to the public.
Authorities have yet to determine liability publicly as it remains unclear who which party will ultimately be held responsible. Meanwhile, the family of the fatally injured passenger have the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. Family members of wrongful death victims are subject to receive and be entitled to compensation for funeral expenses and loss of companionship.
Meanwhile, both drivers of the Tercel and Toyota may be entitled to personal injury claims which would ultimately grant them the right to receive compensation for things such as medical bills and expenses, as well as, pain and suffering.
